Evalutaion

A. I liked all the good lessons we learned. The quotes given to us are very helpful. I also liked that I got to learn how to type without looking at the keyboard.
B. I don't think this class needs any improvement unless we can have more free time.
C. I believe that I had those days that I wouldn't try as I hard as I normally did but I did really try.
D. Sometimes I don't always have time to read it but I try to read and write in it as often as I can. It has helped me figure out my goals for the future.
E. I try to be the best person I possibly can be but I'm human so I have faced some mistakes along the way. I think that the good thing is that I'm able to own up to those mistakes.
F. I have already made similar promises in the past. I know that I will respect everything about me so that means my body, my mind and my spirit

Interdisciplinary Project

When I found out we were doing the interdisciplinary project I was a bit disappointed because I never enjoyed it out of the two semesters we had done it previously. We started off by being put into groups. I was grouped with Eric, Desteny, Isaac, and Verenice. Together we picked the topic Hemophilia. As a group we decided the the essential question and thesis. With all that set we then wrote an essay that I edited and used the essay as the backbone to our power point for the actual presentation. We spent very little time on our interdisciplinary in our classes except for English which took up a lot of learning time. They day of the presentation I felt like I wasn't prepared at all because of my nervousness. I found myself forgetting everything that was on my power point so I had to read my power point a few times to get it right. The presentation was overall more simple than I thought it would be. It was only about five minutes and once I was up in the room doing the actual presentation my nervousness drained. I thought it was very helpful that my mother was there and I wasn't the only one nervous. If I were to do this all over again I wouldn't  be as nervous because I know what to expect and it was easier than everyone made it seem.
There were many good things about this project and bad things.
Pros:
  1. It provided us with an example to how a professional presentation with future employers might be.
  2. We were evaluated by real professionals to tell us how we did
  3. Taught us how to work with people we are not used to working with
  4. It gave people the opportunity to improve their grades in their core classes
Cons:
  1. We spent too much class time on this project when we could have learned
  2. It was too close to finals
  3. It was too stressful

Student Success Statement: Abraham Lincoln

"When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad."
I definitely agree with this because I am like this constantly. Whenever I do something I know I shouldn't do I always feel horrible right afterward. However when I do something good I feel that sense of accomplishment right afterward. For example there was a homeless woman that lived near my house. She couldn't get her cart filled with her belongings up the street so I decided to help her. She thanked me and even offered me money but I decided not to take it because she needed it more than me. An example of a bad is like when one time I screamed at my brother. He felt really hurt and started to cry. I felt really bad because I didn't know it would make him feel bad.

You Are in Charge

Student Success Statement: Mr. Haymore
"Take responsibility for your own body, mind, and spirit, for your own physical, mental, and spiritual well-being."
This quote means exactly what it says, being in charge of yourself. An example of being responsible for your body is knowing when to say no to someone who continues to make advances towards you. Taking responsibility for your mind can be making your own decisions and having your own ideas.  Being responsible for your spirit can be when you don't let people kill your vibe.

Student Success Statement: Richard L. Evans

"We need the courage to start and continue what we should do, and the courage to stop what we shouldn't do."
I agree with this because people are usually afraid of doing these things. In a TV show called "What Would You Do" the main point is to show situations in which the public should step forward and stop bad deeds being done by actors. Most of the time people do not step forward but when they do they are interviewed. From these interviews you can see that all those who stepped forward are kind and brave people, willing to save those who need help the most. This is the type of courage needed to do something that should be done. An example of something we shouldn't do is anything people peer pressure you into. If you know it's wrong why even think about it.

The Sting of a Scorpian

One day a boy named Patrick, who was about seven, decided to not listen to his parents who had told him many times before that you must wear shoes when walking to avoid dangers such as scorpions thorns and snakes. Instead of putting on on shoes he put on flip flops because he thought it would be just as safe. As he walked around a trail he felt the sting similar to a thorn but when he looked down he saw a scorpion. He yelled for help and his parents took him to the hospital found out he would be fine. He thought he was going to die so after that day he never disregarded his parents again.

Student Success Statement: Mark Twain

"Always do right."
As short as this quote is it is a quote that people should apply to their lives. This quote means exactly what it says which is basically do what is correct. Twain, who is also known as the father of American literature, had summarized what most people explain in a paragraph length quote.

When You Tell One Lie it Leads to Another

When you tell one lie, it leads to another
So you tell two lies to cover each other
Then you tell three lies and, Oh Brother,
You're in trouble up to your ears!
So you tell four lies to try to protect you
Then you tell five lies so folks won't suspect you
Then you tell six lies and you'll collect
A life filled with worries and fear
'Cause you can't remember how many lies you've told
And half the things you say aren't true
And sometimes you'll slip up, you'll trip up and then
Whatever will become of you?
So you lie and lie without even trying
And each lie you tell will keep multiplying
'Till the whole wide world will know you're lying
Then you'll be
Suspected
Detected
Rejected
Neglected
Disliked
And you should!
When you lie, you're closing the door
On everything good

Student Success Statement: Paul Hatch

"When you tell one lie, it leads to another."
This is very true because most people like myself have lived through this. You one lie and you have to make more to cover them all up. A good example of this is lying about the sick grandmother. If you use that bit the next thing you know they are going to be asking about that grandmother and you'll have to say another lie. It will probably conclude with the truth coming out and you looking like a fool. This is why I believe that one should never lie and that we should listen to this quote even when we are just going to tell a fib.

Student Success Statement: Lou Holtz

Three Questions:

  1. Can people trust me to do what's right?
  2. Am I committed to doing my very best?
  3. Do I treat people the way I want to treated?
"If the answer to these questions are YES, there is no way you can fail."
I can answer yes to all these questions. I believe that these questions can help you through life but is not an assurance that you will succeed. These questions do help me a lot because I know that I have a possibility of succeeding. The big question here is 'AM I committed to doing my very best?' because if you can't do your best and you're turning in mediocre work you will have a mediocre life.

Student Success Statement: John F. Kennedy

Physical Fitness
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. The relationship between the soundness of the body and the activities of the mind is subtle and complex. Much is not yet understood. But we do know what the Greeks knew: that intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong."

This quote means that you can only do your best in school when you are physically healthy. You can do your best mentally when you are at your best physically. I agree with this a lot because I used to be really fit when I was younger but as soon as I got a computer I stopped excising and that was when my grades started dropping.

Kindness Clip

Baseball
In this clip the boy, Ian, chose to give up his souvenir for the sake of a little boy he didn't even know. In the video the boy talks about how he thought it was very important to be kind to others because it will always come back to help you. I agree with him 100%. Ever since I was young I was taught to be kind to people. I always thought that being kind is a necessity of living, because being unkind has always seemed like an unhappy life for me. This is why if I were in Ian's situation I would do exactly the same.

Student Success Statement: Joseph B. Wirthlin

"Kindness is the essence of greatness."

When you look up the word great you get the definition something above ordinary. That is why being kind makes you great. Now a days no one pays attention to each other and most people are rude. That is why when you or someone you know is kind it's like something you've never seen before.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday that first began to be observed after the first harvest in the new world. The pilgrims went to the New World to practice their religions freely. They went all the way to what is now Massachusetts and settled in Plymouth. About have of the people on board of the Mayflower died before spring due to the outbreak of disease and the harsh weather. Later on these pilgrims were visited by the Native Americans, specifically Squanto who had been kidnapped and sold into slavery by the English. Squanto taught the pilgrims how to grow things and how to fish. With his help the pilgrims formed alliances with other Native Americans. After the first harvest the governor organized a feast. . Thanksgiving was celebrated in certain colonies and states for a two centuries before officially becoming a holiday by Abraham Lincoln in the midst of the Civil War.
Reflection:

  1. I am thankful for being happy and healthy.
  2. I am thankful for all the luxuries I have.
  3. I am thankful that my family is economically stable.
  4. I am thankful that my grandpa didn't get any sicker this year.
  5. I am thankful that I have such wonderful friends.
  6. I am thankful that I have parents that support me with whatever I do.
  7. I am thankful that I am not fat.
  8. I am thankful for all the amazing people I met this year.
  9. I am thankful for

Student Success Statement: Marcus Aurelius

"If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it."
I agree with this statement because it can relate to any topic either modern or historical. For example when you know something is wrong, you have that gut feeling telling you not to do it, don't do it. I have had this feeling multiple times and it always keeps me out of trouble. When you know something a friend has told you or anyone in general don't spread, because then you will be the reason for a rumor spreading and it will just be messy for everyone.

Student Success Statement: James Freeman Clark

"It may make a difference to all eternity whether we do right or wrong today."

I agree with this because you never know the outcome of your decisions. They could be positive or negative but these will not only affect you but as well as the people around you.

Veterans Day

Veterans day is a day in the US that is celebrated in November 11 to honor those who served in the armed forces. before Veterans Day was celebrated as Veterans Day it was known as Armistice Day only made to honor those who served in World War 1. In 1945 a veteran of World War 2 had the idea idea of honoring not just those who served World War 1, but all those who served in the US Armed Forces.

Reflection: I believe that Veterans Day is very important, and not just because we get the day off of school. Veterans Day is good to help us learn about those who fought for our freedom dating back to the American Revolution. Veterans are a big part of our livers because had they not done what they had down we wouldn't be here.

Student Success Statement: Chick Moorman

"Doing what is right, fair, and honorable is more important than winning or losing."
I agree with this quote because it cannot be any truer. Moorman states that winning or losing doesn't make you a good or bad person. Winning is just an accomplishment while losing is a sign that you need to improve. Doing the right thing is what really makes you a hero.

Student Success Statement: W. Clement Stone

"
  1. Have the courage to say no.
  2. Have the courage to face the truth.
  3. Do the right thing because it is right.
These are the 3 magic keys to living your life with integrity."
I agree with this because they are basically the rules i go by. I have always preferred to be honest as opposed to lying for my own gain so reading these rules i noticed that this is how i live my life.

Integrity

Define: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles
Synonyms: Honesty, morality, decency, truthfulness
Examples: Telling your friend she looks fat in what she's wearing, Not cheating on a test, telling a teacher when she gave you more points on an assignment than you deserved

Chicken or Eagle?

"If you hang out with chickens, you're going to cluck, and if you hang out with eagles, you're going to fly."
-Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the the Human Experience

Student Success Statement: Proverbs 13:20

"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."
I agree with this proverb because i have lived it as well as many others. I have met people who were not good influences on me and at times i wonder how i would be like if i had chosen better friends. Some people were not as lucky as me and didn't eventually figure at that those people weren't good for them, thus destroying their future.
