History of Basketball


Who invented basketball?
It is believed to first have been played by the Olmec about 500 years ago as well as the Aztecs and Mayans who both had their own version of basketball. The first true basketball game was played by Dr. James Naismith.
Where?
The Olmecs, who played about 500 years ago, were from Mexico. When Naismith created it, it was played in Springfield, Massachusetts.
When?
January 20, 1892
How?
Naismith wrote down 13 rules that have since been changed.
Why?
Naismith needed a winter sport to play in the YMCA. 
What we the circumstances at the beginning?

What was it like at the start?
Instead of the caurts used now a days before all they had was a peach basket that where they would have to remove the ball from it manually.
What types of shots were taken?

How is the basketball different today than when it first started?
Basketball is now very different than when it was first created. For instances the hoop is no longer a peach basket. Also the rules have been changed or removed. What was once 13 rules is now 8 rules.
